Helen grew up in Wales and has always loved making music! She gained her degree in music from the University of Manchester, where she was also a McMyn String Scholar. She then gained a Secondary Music PGCE with Specialist Strings from the Royal Northern College of Music and Manchester Metropolitan University. Helen then studied violin further at Trinity College of Music, London, gaining a Postgraduate Performance Diploma. Further studies gained her a Certificate of the Dalcroze Society UK, and she continues to study Dalcroze Eurhythmics in her spare time.
Helen worked in London as a freelance violinist for a number of years, in orchestras and string quartets. Her teaching career has combined class music teaching, violin teaching, ensemble coaching and Dalcroze Eurhythmics teaching. For eight years, Helen taught Rhythmics (music through movement) at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama on the String Training Programme. For 12 years, she worked as a music teacher and Head of Music at a number of London primary and preparatory schools.
Since moving to Sweden in 2015, Helen has made the most of the active music scene in Stockholm, joining Orkestern Filialen, the English Church Choir and the Mazer Chamber Music Society. She has worked as Music Teacher for Grades 4 & 5 since November 2015, taking maternity leave during 2016, and returning to school in 2017. Helen continues to get a kick from hearing children making music, and loves creating lessons that challenge her students!
